What do I need to book a car with you?
To book a car you need to follow the online booking procedure.
The online booking consists of few steps. During this procedure you have to accept our terms and conditions and cancellation policy.
Read terms and conditions carefully. In the last step you will confirm the booking and money transfer so you need a major credit card of course.
The last step of the procedure will be emailed to you as final confirmation.
Please observe that a valid driving license is absolutely necessary.
I am 20 years old. May I rent a car in your company?
Unfortunately not! The driver shall be at least 21 years of age and shall have held a driver license for at least one year before renting a vehicle.
What is the minimum rental period?
The minimum rental period is one day (24 hours) for rentals picked up and returned to the same location. When the drop-off is one hour or more after the pick-up time, it is regarded as a full day.
Who is responsible for parking tickets during the time of rental?
The renter is responsible for all parking tickets and fines for traffic violations so please be careful.
Do I have to refill the car before the drop off?
The rental car will normally have a full tank of fuel. The car should be returned with a full tank, otherwise the tank will be filled up on the cost of a client and additional service fee of 4.000 ISK will apply.
I have booked Toyota Corolla. Can I be sure that I will get this particular car?
ICR ehf reserves the right to substitute vehicles when the reserved car type is not available although the car you get will never be of the lower class than the booked one.
Are your cars brand new?
No! Please observe that our cars are NOT brand new. They are manufactured in 2003 or later (except of the vehicles in Group OT which are produced between 1998 and 2002).
Does the basic rate include any insurance?
Yes! Third party coverage and personal accident insurance is automatically included in your rental however the renter can purchase separate SCDW (SPECIAL COLLISION DAMAGE WAIVER) insurance and by doing so lower the self-risk of CDW from 180.000 ISK down to ISK 64.000 . We highly recommend it!
The renter may also purchase special gravel protection (GP) and theft protection (TP) insurance from ICR ehf
Is it possible to cancel the booking and what are the consequences?
It is of course possible to cancel a reservation.
All cancellation must be done by fax or email. Following refund conditions apply:
Cancellation and refunds to individuals:
Time of cancellation prior to arrival, % refund of your previous payment:
More than 1 month - 90% refund
Less than 1 month - 50% refund
Less than 1 week - no refund.
What documents do I need to rent a car in Iceland?
To pick up the car you will need a valid driving license and a major credit card.
ICR ehf will perform an authorization hold on a renter’s credit card for the amount of ISK 64.000 at the start of all rentals for security reasons, even if a voucher covers the cost of the rental, so please make sure that you have enough funds on the card. The authorization hold can be used to cover the costs of necessary repairs others than the repairs caused by normal wear due to use.
What if my car breakes down?
If the car breaks down, you have to let us know about it as soon as possible. Call our office!!! Usually we will be able to provide you with the next car within 18 hours time, but in the case it breaks down very far from our office it can take even 48 hours. The substitute car will be at least of the same class as the one you rented.
If the damage is minor, we reserve ourselves the right to repair the broken vehicle.
What should I do in case of an accident?
Call 112.
In the event of a collision or accident, the renter shall immediately notify the appropriate police authorities as well as the ICR ehf of the incident, and the renter may not leave the scene before the police have arrived.
